This month as we reflect on our many blessings, we pay special homage to the special and often unsung heroes among us -- Kansans who give of their time, their energy and their love by caring for a family member who is ill, frail or disabled. Their monetary reward is small, but their value to all of us is priceless.
In Kansas, there are about 267,000 family caregivers providing 286 million hours of care a year. If that care had to be purchased, it would be worth at least $2.8 billion. And that’s just for one state. Nationally, family caregivers are providing services worth more than $300 billion each year.
We at the Kansas Department on Aging take this opportunity to say “thank you” to all of you who give yourselves to the care of others. Join us as we celebrate National Family Caregivers Month.
